Description
FLOYD CAVES "BABE" HERMAN 7 HAND SIGNED CHECKS FROM 1950 TO 1970FAMOUS DODGERS (ROBINS) POWER HITTER OF THE '20s AND '30s.
These are seven signed checks by one of the most noted power hitters of his time, Babe Herman.
Herman hit for the cycle a record three times. His .393 batting average, .678 slugging percentage,
241 hits and 416 total bases in 1930 remain Dodgers franchise records today.
Between 1926 and 1945, Herman played for 7 teams, most notably the Brooklyn Robins (later, the Dodgers)
and the Dodgers.
He was also known for his misadventures on the base paths and errors in the field. He was the only player
to ever double into a double play. In 1927, 1928 and 1929 he led the majors in errors, at first base and in the outfield.
Fresco Thompson
, a 1931 teammate, observed: "He wore a glove for one reason: because it was a league custom."
Nonetheless, he was one of the most feared ballplayers and liked individuals.
